Earth Day 2025: Self-Sufficiency of Slovenia in Plant-Based Proteins
Slovenia faces challenges related to non-competitiveness and a low level of self-sufficiency in plant-based proteins, which presents a significant opportunity for development. The European strategy The European Green Deal encourages member states to transition to a diet primarily based on plant-based proteins to ensure a sustainable future.
On Earth Day, Grashka brings together key stakeholders—producers, brand representatives, and the Ministry of Agriculture—who are committed to developing and supporting regional production and processing of legumes, both in Slovenia and foreign markets.
By promoting innovative plant-based protein products, which are already successfully entering the global market, we have the opportunity to strengthen Slovenian agriculture, support legume producers, and improve self-sufficiency. In this way, we can ensure sustainable production of high-quality proteins for human nutrition and enhance the resilience of Slovenia's food system.
